Road Running & 10k

Ten kilometers is the UK’s most popular road race distance, it is founded on the key cornerstones of distance running of stamina, strength and speed.  It provides a great base for tuning other race times and is a distance that enables a runner to be a true all rounder according to Jo Pavey.  It is great for improving aerobic fitness and the average runner will burn in the region of 800 calories during a race.

Training plans for the distance are very versatile, so it is easy to find a plan that will fit around your other commitments.  Tempo runs are one of the key components to any training plan, which can also include speed and hill sessions.  Your coach or run leader should be able to help you develop a training plan that balances your commitments and training goals.

If you wish to develop your running and take part in any of the 10k races, you may wish to consider the Tuesday evening endurance group.
