The National Road Relays were held at Sutton Park at the weekend and whilst Leamington C&AC’s men’s team had failed to qualify, the club were represented by their youth squad and their senior ladies team.
The under 13 boys kicked the day off with debuts from Jacob Ellis and Oliver Wetherall running with James Gould who was celebrating his 12th birthday. The boys were faced with some fast competitors and started off almost at the back of the pack but were able to claw some positions back to finish 40th out of 48 complete teams.
The Under 15 girls team, suffering from injury, had two runners pull out at the last minute meaning Emma Dobson and Melanie Gould did not have a complete team. The girls, in true spirit, ran anyway and despite the lack of a third member ran well.
The Under 17 girls showed their strength fielding two teams. Ana and Emily Lovett teamed up with Lucy Green to finish 26th overall, with Molly Minshull, Rositsa Gugutkov and Saffia Chiba finishing in 35th place.
The senior ladies had Megan Rothman running the team’s first and fastest leg of the 4.33km course in 16:29. Mum, Monica went second, followed by debutante Aneta Radaczewska. Zara Blower made up the team running a time of 17:35 to bring the ladies home in 41st position.
BMF Supernova 5k
Leamington C&AC’s Wendy Daniels had a comfortable win at the BMF Supernova 5k held in Bournemouth at the weekend. Her first race in a while, having struggled with an Achilles Injury, Daniels crossed the line in 19:31, over 30 seconds ahead of second place female Holly Wilkinson of City of Portsmouth AC. Daniels stated “it was good to get out there and build my confidence back up for longer races”.
MBNA Chester Marathon
On Sunday two C & AC ladies travelled north to compete in the MBNA Chester Marathon. First home of the duo was Marina Lobato who ran a consistent pace throughout and was rewarded with a massive 20 minute personal best of 3.40.29 to finish in 812th place and 94th lady out of the 4041 finishers. Also breaking the four hour mark was Courtney Depala who stopped the clock at 3.53.42 for 1150th overall and 168th lady to cross the line.
