Throwers in Action

After the second day of the 3rd Midlands Indoor Open was cancelled due to adverse weather, the rescheduled event took place on Sunday 25th March.  This also meant that the javelin throwers from Leamington C&AC did not miss out on the early season field competition.  In a complete change to previous meetings the weather was sunny with a hint of spring finally upon us.

First to throw for the U13g was Megan Marsh.  She was looking to beat her last season PB of 15.33m.  It was a shaky start for Marsh with the first attempt being a no throw due to a foot fault.  However this was soon behind her when next three throws all landed well.  She came away with a new PB of 16.10m and there should be more to come later this season.

Lauren Ashbourne was throwing in the U20w category.  Still getting used to the new weight category for this age group she started with a throw of 29.79m.  Experimenting with her run up she couldn’t better her first throw and had to settle for a best of 29.79m.  No PB this time but again lots of potential for the 2018 season.

CROSS COUNTRY

Two Leamington C&AC youngsters were chosen to represent Warwickshire at the Year 7 cross country championships on Saturday. Held at Prestwold Hall, near Loughborough, Harry Bailey and Diarmuid Winston donned the gold and black vests to represent their county. Bailey got off to a bad start tripping over and sustaining an injury from another runner’s spiked shoe, but the athlete carried on and finished in 150th position in a time of 12:26. Winston was not far behind in a time of 13:17 to finish 165th overall.
