Eastaugh Breaks Course Record

Easter Monday Race

Held every Easter Monday, this year’s Tewkesbury RC Bushley Mile saw competitors from ten Midlands clubs and some travelling from even further afield. Owing to poor weather conditions throughout the weekend and water-logged local roads, turnout was disappointingly lower than the race’s 150-capacity. Nonetheless eighteen runners broke the six minute barrier, with two dipping under five minutes.
The race was won by Leamington C&AC’s Charlie Eastaugh – who now trains with Hercules Wimbledon AC – setting a time of 4:39. Eastaugh’s strong finish sliced four seconds from the previous Course Record, posted in 2009, and added another crown to C&AC’s successful season.
William Mckerney of Bournville Harriers came home in second place with 4:57, with Mark James from Cheltenham Harriers following him in third (5:02). Kiya Dee of Highworth RC took the women’s title in 5:35, a stellar performance in the wet conditions and with a steep, uphill finish. Dee’s twin sister Taya carried home the bronze medal (5:48), separated by Cheltenham’s silver-winning Sarah Sheppard (5:47).
