The second race in the Tempo Events Winter Series took place on a damp Sunday morning 25th November and took in the clockwise direction of the road around Ilmington south of Stratford Upon Avon. Despite the tough ascent up to 6k and the sharp decent in the later stages this local race series is proving popular with another full race of over 300 runners.
Leamington C & A C welcomed back Paul Andrew after a recent back injury to finish 6th, breaking the 40 minute barrier which is not easy on this course with 39:28. Simon West continued his return to racing with a satisfying 31st in 46:06 and fellow 55+ age group runners Andrew Higgins 64th in 48:30 and Alex Montgomery 115th in 52:52. Just one lady representative ran for the red, white and blues, Tejay De Kretser in 258th and a time of 67:37.
The final race of this years Warwickshire Road Race League is the traditional imperial distance of 10 miles starting and finishing in the village of Barby just outside Rugby.
Sunshine but a strong wind greeted the 300 runners as they set off on the challenging course which takes in a climb of two miles midrace up Cart Hill. The race times appeared to be slower than previous years due to the headwind and was won by Ian Allen (Spa) in 54:49.
Dom Priest had travelled back from Bristol especially to compete and secure his number one position in the WRRL and was always in contention ending up 3rd in 57:18. Back up by Dean Mawby 22nd (62:54), Josh Hough 42nd (66:20) and Paul Rutter 47th (67:06) Leamington C&AC picked up the mens team award. Paul was also 2nd M55.
Natalie Bhangal ran a course pb of 66:31 for 43rd overall and 3rd senior lady but with only Saffia Del Torre in 160th (79:06) the club didn’t complete a team.
