MIDLANDS MASTER LEAGUE 2017

Final league meet at Kettering AC 19th July 2017

What a fantastic end to the 2017 league with our Men’s team 1st and Women’s team 2nd!

This season we have seen many of our individual female athletes make many changes and development in order to “fill the gaps” in the squad but the last league meet on 19th July was a great end and performance by ALL of the women athletes. Below are some of the special strong points I noted on the day.

Carol B 1st and 2nd in the 800m and 3000m events, fantastic track running strengths. Louise M, even with a muscular leg injury she still held on to get 5 points in the 200m sprint, watch this girl next track season! Delia C grabbed points in the 200m, 2k Walk and then made up the 4X100m relay team☺.

Christine Taylor, a quality sprinter but unable to compete because of injury, still gained 7 points in the Javelin event! Our multitalented Laura G won 11 points in the Long Jump, 800m and part of the relay team, “scary woman” great to have in our squad and controls Phil☺.

Of course, the never ending Judith H and International Champion Susie T competed for us in both track and field events and then strengthen the 4X100m relay team!

Finally, really good to see Eve Walpole battling in the hard 3000m race and hold on to 4 valuable points. With this being Eve’s first go at track racing, watch her develop next T&F season.

No change in the men’s team domination of the track and Nick T is still the clubs “Big Fish “in the 2k Walk event, even though Nick is also a powerful middle distance runner! Pleasure to see the return of Mick Aston to the 2k Walk events even though he only had serious cervical neck surgery last year. Be careful Nick, he will start nipping your tail soon ☺

In the 200m sprint Andy Cooknell is still sulking because he got dropped to 2nd place by 0.01 of a second! Strong runs by both Craig B and Deadly Dom B and the collection of 7 and 5 valuable points.
In the 800 and 3000m events Phil G, Tom F and Dave P got 23 points, if Dave P wasn’t thinking about “other things” as he approached the finish line, he wouldn’t have been robbed of 1st place and we would of dominated the 800m events with three 1st places! Dave P will be Deadly in his next track race ☺

Our new boy on the block, Paul Andrew smashed all competition in his 3k race and cruised to a comfortable 1st. Even though he wasn’t 100% in form, John K still held on to 2 place in his 3k, only 3 seconds behind the winner.

Last month I highlighted the fact that we struggle for field athletes and then we witness an excellent performance at the Kettering meet from Dom B, powerhouse Jim S, James H, Pete B, Tony F and Dave A!? Together they gained 47 points, only 4 behind R&N☺

Special field items I noted on the night, Pete B is just recovering from knee surgical repair yet still gives us an excellent Hammer performance, Dave A “comes out of the dark” and launches his shot put throw to a fantastic distance of just under 9 meters! Both Deadly Dom B and Big Jim S approach their pole vaults like determined escapees but still grab 12 points☺

In the Triple Jump it was a pleasure to see James H claim 1st place and this is his first season back since becoming a proud Dad!

As always, the relays are exciting and in the men’s we all “bit our lips” as Gouldy, last man in anchor position, decided to readjust his hair just before the baton exchange!! Still, he regained his composure and sprinted to 1st position by 00.8 seconds!!

DON’T FORGET THE BIG A FINAL IS ON THE 10th SEPT 2017 AND PLEASE INFORM DOM, JIM OR ME IF YOU CAN’T MAKE IT. WE CAN WIN THE COMBINED M&F TROPHY AGAIN, BELIEVE IN IT, DON’T DOUBT IT, IT ALL HAPPENS ON THE DAY!!!! ☺
