Leamington Athletics were very well represented at the county championships this weekend. Leamington’s medal haul began on Saturday with masters Dom Browne winning the 100m (12.92) and later the 400m (60.12) with Mark Wise closely following in 2nd (60.31). Another master’s win was Christine Taylor in the 200m (28.72). The senior women saw Zara Blower claiming Bronze in the 5000m (19.24.4). U17 Boys contingent was Charlie Davis who removed his normal barriers of the steeplechase to run into 3rd in the 1500m (4.15.27). In the U15 age group Morgan Reeves battled to a win in the 300m in a new county record of 39.25. Also in the U 15 Joel Sinnott claimed 2nd in 80m hurdles (14.45) and 3rd in Discus (17.70m), with Daniel Hague winning with a throw of 22.62m and Daniel Wilkinson 2nd in 1500m (4.41.27). Rebecca Lord and Isobel Davis dominated the U15 girls 800m finishing 1st (2.23.75) and 2nd (2.27.24) respectively. Also Maddison Illsley finished in 5th 75m hurdles (12.71) and Holly Doogood 7th in Long Jump (3.61m). Drew Sinnott doubled up with a Gold in U13 shot (7.81m) and 4th Long Jump (3.94m) with Sophie Smales 5th in U13 girls 200m (30.82).
Sunday saw another gold rush for Leamington athletes, most coming from field events with wins from Charlie Barkaway in U15 Boys High Jump (1.55m), Gabriel Higgins U17 Long Jump (5.42m), Callum Sinnott U20 Long Jump (6.12m) with brother Drew winning the U13 Javelin (29.20m). Erin McGready jumped to first place with a pb of 10.42m in the U17 girls Triple Jump with Lauren Ashbourne winning the U13 Javelin (13.06) and 2nd in High jump (1.20m). On the track Tasha Taylor knocked a whole second of her 100m pb to claim gold in the U13 100m (13.98), followed by Lauren Ashbourne in 4th (15.01). Leamington had a clean sweep in the U15 girls 300m with another Gold to Rebecca Lord (42.10), silver for Isobel Davis (46.91) and bronze for Connie White (48.56). Isobel had also collected a bronze earlier in 1500m (4.59.16). Another silver was won by Shelley Went in the Senior ladies 100m with a best time in 2 years of 12.74. Also in the 100m saw Danielle Georgiou in the U20 finish in 4th (12.94) followed by Mary Donaldson in 5th (14.28), with Chloe Bromilow in her first championships finished 6th in U17 in a pb (13.59). Mary also threw 27.31m in the U20 Javelin for 3rd place with Joel Sinnott 2nd in the U15 boys javelin (25.12m). Charlie Davis running a shorter distance of 800m ran a pb of 2.04.86 for 5th place, with Gabriel Higgins in 11th (2.19.66). Gabriel also ran the 200m finishing 6th (25.31). Earlier in the day Jamie Langley clocked 16.13.44 to finish 4th in the senior men 5000m.
