Leamington Athletics Senior Team not only gained a long awaited promotion to Division 4 of the Midland League, but actually won the Division. With winning 2 out of the 4 meetings and finishing second in the other 2 beat rivals Solihull into 2nd place.
Glen Woodward who has been a stalwart for the mens team for the last number of years and is now retiring from competition. Marion Childs did a wonderful job in running the Ladies team and organising the officials for each match
The first match was the beginning of May in Sutton in Ashfield, this was a close run match we were not sure of the final results as it would sway between us and Solihull, but when all was finalised we managed to win by 1 point. Next in June was our home match at Edmonscote, unfortunately this was the day before the 2 castles so our distance runners could only cover one event each. However we still filled our quota and with a very strong Solihull ladies team still finished in 2nd place, with Solihull winning. This put us in 2nd overall as Solihull would have more overall points than us.
The 3rd match was in July at Burton on Trent, a lovely summers day with every athlete giving their all. With most events covered again Leamington won the match with Solihull finishing in 5th place! The last match on 2nd August in Telford a typical English wet and sunny day, with our ladies having a very depleted team we had to cover as many events as possible with even the team managers taking part. All we required was a 4th place finish to win the league, but we managed to finish in 2nd place. The mens team did manage to win all 4 matches, this is mainly due to athletes volunteering to cover additional spots and we did fill every event at every match.
The team managers would like to thank all and are very proud of all the athletes who competed this year. Those who competed in all 4 matches are Callum and Rory Sinnott, Callum Hanlon, Gabe Higgins, Richard Stevens, Charlie Davies, Josh Guest, Lucy Miszkowska and Shelley Went. Plus a big thank you to all officials who helped over the season.
